Light Shimmering through Timely Rain

Against the contemporary backdrop that emphasizes fluidity and instability, this exhibition seeks to preserve a coordinate for self-awareness amidst the shifting currents of memory and perception. It responds to the modern preoccupation with the flow of experience, exploring how painting — through the erosion of time and sensation — can continuously generate its own density of existence.

 

The exhibited polyptychs and assembled works function as slices of memory, constructing miniature theatres upon the walls. The state of mind shifts, at times drifting with the shadows and at others remaining as steadfast as stone. Amidst the rippling events of life, we strive to capture a sense of clarity; within the shifting light of daily routines, we allow emotions to linger in corners of clamour or silence. This is a contemporary practice of fueki ryūkō — the unchanging and the ever-changing held together: allowing transformation to become an extension of essence, rather than its disappearance, while maintaining an axis of perception through persistent change.

 

The visual language of the works oscillates between the play of light on figures, everyday objects, and abstract textures. Subtle details — the accumulated layers of flattened pigment on the canvas surface, the intentional gaps left between panels — interact and resonate within the assembled structure, summoning a sense of time and weight far greater than the frames themselves.

 

The high notes of a piano can meet an echo from deep antiquity. Within the finitude of life, we traverse the vast seas of knowledge and the immensity of history, applauding the brilliance of stories told in miniature theatres, finding joy in the fine crevices of the everyday. Through these shifting contrasts, we find a place of ease amidst turbulence — extending perception, sensing the infinite possibilities the world leaves open.
